The highly anticipated Mortal Kombat sequel is underway, with our first glimpse introducing Karl Urban as the charismatic fighter Johnny Cage.
Series co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a stylized promotional poster featuring Urban (known for The Boys and Judge Dredd) portraying the Hollywood star-turned-warrior. The artwork mimics a fictional Johnny Cage action movie, complete with flaming motorcycle stunts.
Serving as a direct follow-up to the 2021 reboot, Mortal Kombat 2 brings back Lewis Tan as Cole Young alongside franchise icons like Hiroyuki Sanada's Scorpion and Joe Taslim's Sub-Zero. Urban joins an expanded cast including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

The original film followed Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat universe and the deadly feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While sequel details remain undisclosed, the game's rich lore offers numerous storytelling possibilities.
Initially planned for theatrical release before pandemic disruptions, the first installment debuted on HBO Max. The sequel will hit theaters worldwide on October 24, 2025.
Our review awarded the previous film a 7/10, praising its "visually stunning martial arts sequences and graphic combat scenes."
