Jason Momoa Teases Lobo’s Debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow: 'We Look Pretty Dead On'

by Amelia Mar 25,2025

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring his favorite comic book character, Lobo, to life in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. This marks Momoa's transition from the old DC universe to the rebooted DCU, where he will portray the iconic alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and shares a similar backstory with Superman as the last survivor of his destroyed world.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa expressed his excitement and nervousness about taking on the role of Lobo, emphasizing the character's significance to him. He teased that fans can expect a faithful representation of Lobo, including his rough and gruff demeanor and an impressive bike. However, Momoa hinted that Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be brief, as the film primarily focuses on Supergirl, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts. The film also stars David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.

DC co-chief James Gunn has shared initial glimpses of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, confirming that production has begun. This movie will be the second in the new DCU lineup, following Gunn's Superman set to hit theaters in the summer of 2026, and preceding the Clayface movie scheduled for September 2026.
