Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Fuels Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Fever With a Picture of a Chocolate Cake

by Penelope Mar 27,2025

It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece, Hollow Knight. Throughout those years, fans have eagerly anticipated updates, witnessing Silksong teased at various events but never quite materializing. At one point, Microsoft even suggested a launch before June 2023, yet The Game Awards came and went without a glimpse of Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The speculation centers around a seemingly innocuous picture of a cake. Here's the story: Supersleuths on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to an image of a chocolate cake. Accompanying this change, Pellen tweeted: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

At the time, rumors were swirling that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 on January 16, which turned out to be true. That day, Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2, although many questions about the next-gen console remain unanswered. Could Pellen's tweet be hinting at the Switch 2 reveal? And if so, why?

This sparked a frenzy among the Hollow Knight community. Fans conducted a reverse image search of the cake, leading them to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024.

Why is this date significant? Because Nintendo has scheduled the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans speculate that Pellen's tweet and the cake image might be the start of a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG).

The intrigue doesn't end there. Fans are now deciphering Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True proposed an interesting theory: "The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of 'everydruidwaswr.' I think 'wr' is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC."

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have connected this to Little Boomey, a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this mean?

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. However, that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Hollow Knight: Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just wild speculation from fans desperate for news?

We'll find out in a few months. Until then, be sure to check out everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
