The Hermit quest is automatically unlocked as you progress through quests for the blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Once you've found the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He will express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, thus initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can meet the hermit, you must first gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Start by visiting the tavern in Troskowitz and speaking with Innkeeper Betty, ensuring you exhaust all dialogue options. Then, converse with other villagers to gather more clues. In my experience, speaking with the alehouse maid and the general trader proved helpful.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Your next step is to speak with Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have seen the apparition. You can either offer her some Groschen or pass a dialogue check to obtain the necessary information. Next, head to Apollonia and talk to Stanislav. Again, you'll need to pass a dialogue check or pay with Groschen.

Gather Evidence

Armed with the information, it's time to collect evidence. Head to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. You'll need a spade, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find at cemeteries near settlements.

After reading the documents, proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia to find a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Examining the horse will provide your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Head to the hermit's hut and engage in conversation. Without evidence, the hermit will remain silent, but with the clues in hand, he'll be more forthcoming. Choose these dialogue options:

The hermit will confess he is not Ambrose but Konrad. Before handing over the sword, he asks you to speak with a widow named Margaret and deliver a cross to her.

Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to find Margaret and give her the cross, triggering the Sinful Soul quest. You can complete this quest immediately by helping Margaret dig Ambrose's grave, though it's optional. You may choose to return to Konrad right away.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll find Crusaders nearby. You can either assist them in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape. Sneak to the hut and inform Konrad you've completed the task. Ask about the sword, then decide whether to help Konrad or kill him. I chose to kill Konrad, as it's less challenging, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' assistance.

After Konrad's defeat, talk to the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.
