Epic Games' recent Fortnite update, introducing significant UI changes, has sparked considerable player discontent. While the update included new content, cosmetics, and pickaxe options (welcomed by many), the quest UI redesign has proven particularly controversial.
The new quest system organizes quests into collapsible blocks and submenus, a departure from the previous list format. Although some players appreciate the cleaner visual aesthetic, the added layers of menus are causing significant frustration. The time investment required to navigate the new system, especially during crucial moments in-game, is a major point of contention. Players report increased difficulty in quickly locating quests, leading to premature eliminations, particularly while tackling the new Godzilla quests.
Prior to the update, accessing quests for different game modes necessitated switching between those modes in the lobby – a process many found cumbersome. The new system aims to address this, allowing players to view quests across various modes (like Reload and Fortnite OG) from a central location. However, the implementation within matches is widely criticized for its inefficiency and time-consuming nature.
Despite the negative reception to the quest UI overhaul, the addition of Fortnite Festival instruments as pickaxes and back blings has been generally well-received, offering players expanded cosmetic customization options. While this positive aspect softens the blow, the overall sentiment towards the quest UI redesign remains overwhelmingly negative. The future will tell if Epic Games addresses these concerns with further updates.
