Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.

The decision comes just one day after the automatic demolition timers were reactivated following a previous suspension. In Final Fantasy XIV, housing plots are subject to a 45-day demolition timer if left unoccupied by players or Free Companies. This timer is reset by simply logging into the house, encouraging player activity and subscription. However, Square Enix regularly pauses these timers during significant real-world events to accommodate players who may be unable to access the game. A previous pause, ending January 8th, was implemented in response to Hurricane Helene's aftermath.

This latest suspension, effective January 9th, 11:20 PM Eastern Time, specifically targets the four aforementioned data centers. Homeowners can still reset their timers to the full 45 days by visiting their properties.

Impact Beyond the Game:

The Los Angeles wildfires have impacted more than just Final Fantasy XIV. The popular web series, Critical Role, postponed a major event, and an NFL playoff game was relocated.

The recent events, including this housing demolition pause and the return of a free login campaign, have made for a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players. The duration of this latest suspension remains undetermined.
