Not long ago, if you saw someone pick Terrorblade as an Offlaner in Dota 2, you might have thought they were trolling. After a brief stint as a Position 5 support, Terrorblade seemed to vanish from the meta. Sure, you'd occasionally see him as a Position 1 Hard Carry in specific matchups, but he was largely absent from the pro scene.

Fast forward to today, and Terrorblade has surged in popularity as a Position 3 pick, especially in high MMR brackets of Dota 2. What makes him effective in the Offlane? What items should you build for this role? This comprehensive Position 3 Terrorblade build guide answers these questions and more.

Dota 2 Terrorblade Overview

Before diving into why Terrorblade is a solid Offlane choice, let's review the hero. Terrorblade is a melee Agility hero with exceptional Agility gain per level. Although his Strength and Intelligence gains are low, his high Agility stat provides substantial armor as he levels up. By late game, dealing Physical Damage to him becomes nearly impossible, even for Dota 2's strongest heroes.

Terrorblade also boasts above-average movement speed, which, when paired with his abilities, enables him to efficiently farm stacked jungle camps for crucial items. His Innate Ability, Dark Unity, boosts the damage of his illusions within a certain range. The hero has three active skills and an ultimate.

A Quick Overview Of Terrorblade's Abilities

Ability NameHow it Works
ReflectionTerrorblade creates invulnerable illusions of all enemy heroes in a target AOE that deal 100% damage and slow their attack and movement speed.
Conjure ImageCreates a controllable illusion of Terrorblade that deals damage and lasts for a long duration.
MetamorphosisTerrorblade transforms into a powerful demon, gaining bonus attack range and damage. All Conjure Image illusions also switch to Metamorphosis form within a certain range.
SunderTerrorblade swaps his current HP with the target's current HP. The ability can't kill the enemy hero but can bring them down to 1 HP when the Condemned Facet is active. Sunder can also be used on allies to save them.

Terrorblade's Aghanim's Scepter and Aghanim's Shard upgrades are as follows:

  • Aghanim's Shard: Grants Terrorblade a new ability called Demon Zeal. Activating the ability causes Terrorblade to lose a percentage of his current health to gain health regeneration, bonus attack speed, and bonus movement speed. It can only be used when the hero is in melee form.
  • Aghanim's Scepter: Grants Terrorblade a new ability called Terror Wave. Activating the ability releases a wave of terror that inflicts Fear on any enemy heroes and deals damage. It also activates Metamorphosis for 10 seconds or extends the duration if it's already active.

Terrorblade also has two Facets:

  • Condemned: Removes the health threshold for Sundered enemies.
  • Soul Fragment: Conjure Image illusions always spawn at full health, but casting the ability now has an additional health cost.

Position 3 Terrorblade Build Guide in Dota 2

What makes Terrorblade excel in the Offlane is his first ability, Reflection. It's a low-mana, low-cooldown spell that creates an Illusion of enemy heroes for a short duration. Since the Illusion deals 100% damage, you can effectively remove key enemy heroes like Lina from combat.

However, Terrorblade's extremely low Health Pool remains a challenge. You'll need to build items that address this weakness, choose the right Talents, and prioritize your abilities correctly to maximize the hero's potential.

Facets, Talents, & Ability Order

When playing Terrorblade in the Offlane, selecting the Condemned Facet is crucial. It removes the HP threshold for Sunder, making it even more lethal if timed correctly. A well-timed Sunder can even take down a well-farmed Huskar with one hit.

Start with Reflection at level 1 to harass the enemy Safelane duo safely and potentially secure early kills. Max it out as quickly as possible. Pick up Metamorphosis at level 2 for increased kill threat, and Conjure Image at level 4. Get Sunder at level 6.
