"Discovering the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Guide"

by Emma Apr 21,2025

*Monster Hunter Wilds* streamlines many of the series' systems, making tracking monsters almost unnecessary. However, there is one notable exception: the elusive Black Flame. Here's how to find it in *Monster Hunter Wilds*.

Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds

About midway through the main story of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, in Chapter 3, the Black Flame monster will make an appearance before disappearing into the Oilwell Basin. Your mission is to locate and defeat it.

Begin by leaving the Base Camp and heading towards Zone 9 of the region, as shown in the map screenshot below.

As you journey towards Zone 9, keep an eye out for tar tracks on the ground. Interact with these tracks, and your Hunter will pick up the Black Flame's trail, which will be automatically sent to the scoutflies. This feature allows you to easily track the monster's exact location. Follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies to reach the giant flaming crater in Zone 9, where you'll find the Black Flame.

The Black Flame, also known as Nu Udra, is a tentacled beast that can unleash fire and other flame-based attacks. To simplify the fight, start by targeting its tentacles. Removing a few of them will facilitate access to its inner weak points, enabling you to gather more materials after the battle.

To combat the region's heat, it's wise to carry Cool Drinks. These will help prevent continuous health depletion due to the high temperatures.

That's how you can locate and defeat the Black Flame in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and information on the game, including how to change your Palico's language and capture monsters, be sure to check out The Escapist.
