For newcomers, Uma Musume Pretty Derby is part of a larger multimedia franchise including anime and manga. Its popularity stems largely from the success of the anime series.

Initially released in Japan and Asia (February 2021, Android and iOS), the game features horse girls—racehorses reincarnated as girls in an alternate universe—striving for idol stardom while competing in the "Twinkle Series."
