Top Spring 2025 Anime Dub Recommendations

Out of the 'big name' titles this season, such as the third season of Fire Force and My Hero Academia spinoff Vigilantes, The Apothecary Diaries is the one I'd recommend if you're short on time. Shonen and seinen shows that don't heavily focus on action or gritty themes are rare, making this historical series about a young, female apothecary solving medical mysteries in a fictional Chinese Imperial palace a unique and heartwarming gem. Its recent distribution to Netflix, where anime has a better chance at reaching a broader audience, underscores its growing popularity, which it thoroughly deserves.

Once Upon A Witch's Death introduces us to Meg Raspberry, a teenage witch cursed to live just one more year after her seventeenth birthday. Tasked by her teacher Faust, the Eternal Witch, with collecting a thousand tears of joy, this anime promises to be a literal tearjerker. Its unique premise, Ghibli-esque character designs, and an oddly yassified owl familiar make it a must-watch.

Fans of Solo Levelling might find a similar thrill in the anime adaptation of the popular webtoon The Beginning After The End. Arthur Leywin, a magic-using young boy with the memories of a deceased and ruthless adult king, navigates the fantasy world of Dicathen. As he carves out a more loving existence with new companions, he's inevitably drawn back into the conflicts of his previous life. It's like an isekai version of The Boss Baby, setting the right expectations.

Donghua and Chinese animation are making significant strides in the international market, particularly in the Boys Love genre. However, To Be Hero X is a shonen series with a visually stunning trailer, blending neon-splattered 2D and 3D styles reminiscent of Spider-Verse and Studio TRIGGER's work. Set in a dimension where clothing serves as weaponry, reminiscent of Kill La Kill, this show is directed by Link Clink's Li Haolin and features music by anime soundtracker Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack On Titan). Following previous series TO BE HERO and To Be Heroine, X will be available on Netflix and Prime Video, as well as Crunchyroll.

Finally, the WITCH WATCH anime, long-awaited from the Shonen Jump stable, aims to redeem the disappointment of Sakamoto Days. It follows the odd couple Nico, a teenage witch, and Morihito, a humanoid ogre she's known since childhood, as they move in together post-magic school graduation. Morihito, assigned as her familiar/guard due to a historical family deal, must keep her powers under wraps, but Nico has romance and mischief in mind. It's like DanDaDan viewed through the heart-eyes of the magical girl genre. After three-episode theatrical screenings, the WITCH WATCH anime will stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll.
