Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating that she signed on for the film and even had pre-production meetings with Tatum before its cancellation following the 2019 Disney-Fox merger. She mentioned that a start date was even set before the project was ultimately abandoned. Tatum's journey to bring Gambit to the screen, marked by setbacks and even "trauma," culminated in a surprise cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.
