One of the most intricate elements of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is its Synthesis mechanic, which is intricately woven into every facet of the game. From the resources you gather to the weapons you craft, understanding Synthesis is crucial for maximizing your gameplay experience. Here's a detailed guide on how to master it.
In Atelier Yumia, you'll encounter three distinct types of Synthesis:
For crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, and magical items, as well as materials needed for Synthesis, you'll need to utilize the Regular Synthesis mechanic, which is exclusively available at an Alchemist’s altar. Early in the game, you'll unlock the Atelier, allowing you to return and Synthesize at any time. Additionally, in areas where you can build—such as plots of land after clearing a manabound zone and campsites across the regions—you can construct a Simple Altar, enabling regular Synthesis.
Simple Synthesis can be accessed at any time outside of battle through the radial menu. This allows you to craft essential items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits for fixing treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
Building Synthesis, accessed via the radial menu, is available on specific plots of land. Although not officially labeled as Synthesis, Yumia is indeed Synthesizing storage chests and wall hangings in this mode. The game's story often refers to it as such, so keep this in mind to avoid confusion.

The most complex aspect of Synthesis is the regular form conducted at altars. For instance, to craft a gun staff for Yumia, you must first discover the recipe while exploring the world. You can also enhance your existing gun staff recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles found at mana fountains. Once you have the recipe, follow these steps at an Alchemist’s altar:
To craft powerful items early in the game, it's essential to unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills will provide flat damage and quality boosts to your items and allow you to duplicate them, saving valuable resources.
You can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. To do this, press the left or right bumper while filling the slots in a specific core. Collecting mana fragments—the yellow sparkles around an Alchemy Core—for all three cores will significantly boost the item's strength. This is advisable unless you're crafting a quest item.
When selecting resources, ensure they match the element type of specific slots, which you can identify by the blue outline around them. You can also organize your resources from the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, though sometimes prioritizing effects may be more beneficial.
If the complexity of the Synthesis mechanic feels overwhelming, you can opt for the auto-Synthesis option after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game will then create the best possible item, enabling you to tackle even the final boss on Normal difficulty with relative ease.
And that's all you need to know to fully leverage the Synthesis mechanic in Atelier Yumia.
