Amazon's God of War TV Series Already Set for Season 2 Before Season 1 Has a Release Date

Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV series, before even premiering, has already secured a two-season order, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore stepped into the role after the departure of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a conversation with fellow Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, Moore revealed his current project: "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," he said. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite admitting to a limited personal gaming history, enjoying classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede but struggling with modern controllers ("'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he quipped), Moore's involvement extends to writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His extensive credits include Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the aforementioned Battlestar Galactica.

While some members of the previous team departed, Sony's Cory Barlog remains on board as executive producer. Details remain scarce, but the series will be based on the 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's swift renewal of other video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following successful premieres, suggests a positive outlook for the God of War series’ streaming prospects.
