Japanese Mahjong: A Digital Adaptation

This app offers a digital rendition of Japanese-style Mahjong. Tile selection is achieved by using an on-screen slider; tapping the slider discards a tile. The objective, as in traditional Mahjong, is to complete four melds and a pair.

Note: Certain hand combinations are invalid if achieved through Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. Pay attention to the restrictions on using 1 and 9 tiles in Chi and Pon. A winning hand requires at least one or more melds.

Reaching a winning hand is possible by paying 1,000 points and declaring a Reach. However, Reach is not possible after performing a Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. Closed hands yield higher point values.

Lost Hand Considerations: A Lost Hand occurs when a player is waiting for a winning tile, but cannot win because they previously discarded that tile. A Lost Hand still exists even if a winning tile remains available, but the player cannot win from a discard. Self-draws are still possible, however. Critically, a Lost Hand cannot be won through a Ron from another player's discard. Winning Rons must always come from another player's discard, and never from a tile the winning player previously discarded. Strategic play involves anticipating winning tiles from other players' discards.
